  4. Use Rolling Thunder to obtain the Sales by Model type (Export Data button on the main screen). Bring the data into Excel and create a graph.
  5. Create a Web page with a table of Sales data by four regions for three years (years in columns). Create at least two links so that when the user clicks on the name of the region, they get a page displaying detailed sales by product for that region.
  6. Rolling Thunder database queries. Create the queries to answer the following questions. Copy and paste the SQL statements into a document and use HandIn to submit it.

  7. Rolling Thunder report. Create a report that shows sales for December 2006 with subtotals by Model Type. Include a chart at the end of the report.
  8. What is computer forensics? What is the most important first step in analysis? Find a description of a tool used by forensic analysts.
  9. Create a short file in Word. Create a password to encrypt and save it. Share it with the other members of your team who will add their names. Briefly describe any problems you might have with telling them the password--if you are not located in the same room.
  10. Microsoft Access forms. Create a common order form using Microsoft Access
  11. Choose a publicly-traded company. Draw graphs showing the Sales, Net earnings, and Assets for the most recent three years.
  12. Working in a group, divide the U.S. into regions. Each group will write a query to compute Rolling Thunder total sales for one of the regions for 2000-2005. Use the SharePoint system to create a spreadsheet that contains charts for each of the regions/groups.
  13. Set up a Groove session with at least one other person. Work on a Word document together. Add your names and some comments. Test the Protection/Track Changes feature. Hand in the final document.
  14. As a team, use Google Docs or Microsoft Live to create a document to list at least three differences between Google Docs and Microsoft Word.
  15. Take the sales data for full suspension mountain bikes from Rolling Thunder by month for the last three years and use Excel to forecast the potential sales for the next six months.

  17. Create a query in Rolling Thunder to compute the sales by state for 2008. Start Microsoft MapPoint and graph this sales data.
  18. As a team, find two software packages that could be used to run a medium-sized restaurant. Briefly compare the features.
  19. Use Microsoft Project to create a GANTT chart for a small project. See Chapter 13, Exercise 11.
  20. Assume you are starting a small company. Choose a type of company (e.g., service, retail, manufacturing). Assume you need to hire one MIS employee. Using salary survey data, identify the skills you want and estimate the annual salary needed.
  21. Choose a social networking site, read the privacy policy and summarize the privacy settings. What changes would you want to see as a consumer?
  22. Find an anonymity server, try to identify its physical location, and comment on whether terrorists could use the server.
  23. Examine the information available about you online and assess the probability that someone could use that information to guess or reset your passwords. Do not provide the password or information in your comments.
